Deus, pátria e família na literatura da pós-modernidade : uma abordagem de O nosso reino de valter hugo mãe

Abstract

As designações de Pós-Modernidade e Pós-Modernismo são aquelas que,correntemente, melhor enquadram e definem o panorama da civilização e da literatura actuais. Partindo destas tendências culturais e estéticas, este trabalho debruça-se, sobretudo, sobre a definição das coordenadas que enquadram o Pós-modernismo como paradigama estético-literário. Recorrendo a diversos textos teorizantes, numa primeira parte definem-se e distinguem-se os conceitos de Pós-modernidade e Pós-Modernismo, na sua génese e características, nos seus autores e obras mais consagrados, tanto no estrangeiro como em Portugal. Numa segunda parte analisa-se o nosso reino de valter hugo mãe, romance de 2004, procurando vislumbrar as tendências actuais da literatura e ilustrando a abordagem com intervenções de diversos autores que, de várias formas, ressaltam aspectos que elucidam sobre a prática criativa ficcional. Os conceitos de Deus, Pátria e Família são aqueles que norteiam a construção da obra e se constituem como objecto de dissecação analítica. Estes três elementos estruturadores da consciência individual e colectiva apresentam-se como factores de instabilidade e repressão. Deles se parte para uma perspectiva dos alicerces da nação portuguesa, na sua passagem do Estado Novo ao período do pós vinte e cinco de Abril. A narrativa de uma criança é pontuada por digressões realistas e fantásticas, e por personagens que ora remetem para a vida real ora se alcandoram ao mundo da pura imaginação. Assim, realidade e fantasia misturam-se de modo a criar uma mundividência de estranhamento. O presente estudo apresenta pois, à luz dos pressupostos pós-modernistas, uma obra actual como exemplo das novas realizações da literatura portuguesa.

The concepts of Post-Modernity and Post-Modernism are those that currently, best fit and define the today background of civilization and literature. Based on these cultural and aesthetic tendencies, this work focuses mainly on the definition of the coordinates that establish Post-Modernism as an aesthetic-literary paradigm. Through different theorizing texts, in the first part of this essay, the aim is to define and distinguish the concepts of Post-Modernity and Post-Modernism, in its genesis and characteristics, its authors and most celebrated works, both abroad and in Portugal. The second part analyzes Valter Hugo Mãe's 2004 novel, o nosso reino, for an insight into the current trends in literature and illustrating the approach with views from several authors who, in many ways, point out aspects that shed light on the practice of creative fiction. The concepts of God, Fatherland and Family are those that guide the construction of the novel and constitute the object of analytic dissection. These three structural elements of individual and collective consciousness are presented as factors of instability and repression. This novel gives a perspective of the social and cultural foundations of the Portuguese nation, in the transition from the Estado Novo period to the immediately after the revolution of April the fifth’s time. The narrative of a child is punctuated by both realistic and fantastic digressions, and characters sometimes refer to real life or established themselves into the world of pure imagination. Thus, reality and fantasy blend together to create an ambiance of strangeness. The present study, therefore, in the light of Post-Modernist assumptions, accepts this novel as an example of the new achievements of Portuguese literature.
