Dinâmicas de poder dos intérpretes/língua portugueses na Ásia de João de Barros

Abstract

O principal objectivo deste trabalho é identificar e caracterizar os língua portugueses sinalizados numa das obras maiores da Cronística da Expansão, a Ásia de João de Barros. Dos feitos que os Portugueses fizeram no descobrimento e conquista dos mares e terras do Oriente, traçando-se um esboço das suas competências, funções e circunstâncias de actuação. O trabalho organiza-se em três capítulos. No primeiro abordam-se as características específicas da obra utilizada como fonte principal, a sua estrutura narrativa e contexto de produção e publicação, inserindo-a e comparando-a com o acervo de outros cronistas coevos e com o enquadramento histórico em que ela se insere. Seguidamente traça-se o percurso conducente à conceptualização da função de intérprete, discute-se a diferença de competências entre tradutores e intérpretes e identificam-se os língua mencionados na fonte principal, com o auxílio de quadros sinópticos. Finalmente analisam-se os condicionalismos históricos e as dinâmicas de poder dos língua enquanto mediadores linguísticos, culturais e político-estratégicos, com base nos requisitos para a escolha dos intérpretes e na sinalização das suas funções e circunstâncias de actuação.

The main objective of this study is to identify and characterise the Portuguese língua signaled in one of the major works of the Chronicles of Expansion, the Ásia de João de Barros. Dos feitos que os Portugueses fizeram no descobrimento e conquista dos mares e terras do Oriente, outlining their skills, functions and circumstances they were involved in. The dissertation is organised into three chapters. The first chapter deals with the specific characteristics of the primary source, its narrative structure, and context of production and publishing, inserting it and comparing it to the acquis of other coeval writers and the historical framework. Then we follow the course leading to the conceptualisation of the role of interpreter, debate the difference between translation and interpreting skills and identify the língua mentioned in the primary source, with the help of synoptic charts. Finally, we examine the historical factors and power dynamics of the língua as linguistic, cultural, and political-strategic mediators, based on the requirements for the selection of interpreters, and pointing out the functions and circumstances they were involved in.
