Texto, poder e leitor : elementos para a representação da adolescência na ruralidade em António Mota

Abstract

Objeto de um número crescente de estudos a nível nacional e internacional, os textos destinados a um potencial leitor infanto-juvenil têm conduzido ao aprofundamento de inúmeras questões na área da análise textual, da interpretação e da receção, entre outras, desenvolvidas em diferentes contextos de investigação, entre os quais o dos estudos literários e o dos estudos da criança. O presente trabalho analisa como, através de diversos dispositivos textuais, a comunicação que se efetiva entre o texto e o potencial leitor adolescente contribui para o desenvolvimento da sua capacidade reflexiva. A partir de um conjunto de seis obras juvenis de António Mota, pretende-se verificar se, e de que forma, o texto incentiva a cooperação do leitor na reconstrução do universo da adolescência rural nelas representado, tendo em mente que a comunicação texto-leitor manifesta um desequilíbrio de poder entre o autor adulto e o leitor adolescente. Após uma breve contextualização do autor no panorama da literatura infanto-juvenil contemporânea (capítulo I), reflete-se sobre as abordagens teóricas que colocam em evidência o caráter dialógico da representação e a caracterização do texto como lugar de aprendizagem do poder através do discurso (capítulo II). A análise do corpus (capítulo III) procura identificar os dispositivos que concorrem para o empoderamento do adolescente, possibilitando concluir de que forma a representação da adolescência na ruralidade contribui para a formação de um leitor reflexivo e progressivamente consciente da sua própria identidade (capítulo IV).

The increasingly wider research into texts intended for adolescent readers have led to a great number of questions raised in different areas. The textual analysis, hermeneutics and reception of children’s and young readers’ literature are issues that have been studied both into the context of literary studies and also into the more comprehensive area of children’s studies. This research analyses how the use of certain textual devices enables the communication between the text and the potential adolescent reader, thus setting in motion the development of a constructive and self-reflective reader. Within a selection of six books for young readers written by António Mota, the purpose of this dissertation is to verify if and how the text invites the reader to cooperate in the reconstruction of the rural universe therein represented, bearing in mind that the imbalance between the adult author and the young reader is a constant trait in this form of communication. A brief description of the author in the context of the Portuguese children’s literature (chapter I) is followed by a review of the theoretical studies focused both on the dialogical character of textual representation and on the text as a place for the apprenticeship of power relations through discourse (chapter II). The textual analysis of the selected works of António Mota (chapter III) aims at the identification of the textual devices which enable adolescent empowerment and thereby sustain the conclusion that the representation of rural adolescence paves the way for the development of self-reflective readers who will be increasingly conscious of their own identities (chapter IV).
