TIC e aprendizagem da língua inglesa no ensino formal português : meta-análise da investigação entre 2002 e 2012

Abstract

Estudos recentes têm reconhecido a importância das tecnologias emergentes e da Internet para a aprendizagem de uma língua, ao mesmo tempo que se referem ao papel destas como ferramentas de ensino e aprendizagem, as quais podem ser integradas na educação para complementar o trabalho do professor e para ir ao encontro das tendências e exigências das novas gerações de alunos, grandemente influenciadas pela atual sociedade digital. Este estudo, com base em quarenta e quatro provas académicas publicadas online, as quais constituem o corpus de análise desta investigação, tem como objetivo analisar como têm sido utilizadas as TIC (Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação) na aprendizagem da língua Inglesa, no ensino formal em Portugal, no período entre 2002 e 2012. Neste contexto, tendo em conta a importância destas tecnologias, definiram-se questões de investigação para perceber: a utilização das TIC para a aprendizagem da língua Inglesa; as evidências da eficácia na aprendizagem dos alunos; as perspetivas dos investigadores em relação à integração das tecnologias na aprendizagem da língua Inglesa no ensino formal em Portugal; os desafios e as recomendações em relação às TIC e à aprendizagem da língua Inglesa. Após a meta-análise multimodal realizada, constata-se que os investigadores demonstraram uma atitude positiva em relação à integração das TIC no processo de ensino e aprendizagem dos alunos no que se refere à aprendizagem da língua Inglesa. No entanto, também reconhecem que ainda existem alguns desafios e barreiras que podem impedir a integração da tecnologia na aprendizagem formal em Portugal, como por exemplo a falta de formação adequada para a utilização das TIC.

Recent studies have acknowledge, the importance of emergent technologies and the Internet for Language learning, referring also to their role as teaching tools that can be used to improve the teaching and learning process, since they can be integrated in Education as a complement to the teacher´s work and to meet the trends and fulfill the demands of the present generations of students, highly influenced by the current digital and technological society. This study, based on forty-four Theses, Dissertations and other academic documents published online, which constitute the corpus of analysis of this research, aims to analyse how the ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) have been used in Portugal as far as English language learning is concerned, in formal teaching, between 2002 and 2012. In this context, and bearing in mind the importance of these technologies, we addressed our research questions to allow us to understand: the uses of ICT in English language learning; the evidences that ICT can improve student achievement; researchers' perceptions of Technology integration in English language learning in formal teaching in Portugal; the challenges and the suggestions regarding ICT and English language learning. After our multimodal meta-analysis, we acknowledge that researchers have a positive attitude towards the integration of ICT in the teaching and learning process of English language learners. However, they also acknowledge that there are still some challenges and barriers that can prevent the integration of technology in formal teaching in Portugal, such as the lack of adequate teacher training in the use of ICT.
