Os media digitais nos processos de identidade, pertenças transnacionais e integração : estudo de caso de imigrantes brasileiros no concelho de Grândola

Abstract

In the twenty-first century, with globalization in all its aspects - financial flows worldwide, regulatory institutions of world trade, network communication or international migration – we witnessed the outbreak of a world increasingly articulated worldwide. In this "network society", the digital media have transformed the social life, creating new forms of action and interaction that have revolutionized and brought a new glow to the phenomenon of immigrant transnationalism. It is therefore necessary to investigate the role of digital technologies for the development of networks established between transmigrants and what are the consequences in the identity level for these "technological nomads". The main objective of this research is to find answers to a key question: what is the role of digital media in identity processes, transnational belonging and integration of Brazilian immigrants living in the small town of Grândola? To this end, through a case study, semi-structured interviews were conducted to ten people belonging to the Brazilian community, witnesses of different places and incorporation modes in the economy and Portuguese and grandolense society. The results show that the digital media, especially the Internet, allow immigrants to find and reinvent their country of origin and create ties in the host society, offer opportunities to interact with their peers and with local communities, and consolidate transnational public spheres, while networks of excellence to / link and contact between migrants individuals together, societies of origin and host societies. Thus, it will be of utmost importance to continue to study the true implications of new technologies on the lives of immigrant communities.

No século XXI, com a globalização em todas as suas vertentes - fluxos financeiros à escala mundial, instituições de regulação do comércio mundial, comunicação em rede ou migrações internacionais – assistimos ao eclodir de um mundo cada vez mais articulado à escala mundial. Nesta “sociedade em rede”, os media digitais transformaram a vida social, criando novas formas de ação e interação que revolucionaram e trouxeram um novo fulgor ao fenómeno do transnacionalismo imigrante. Importa, assim, investigar o papel das tecnologias digitais para o fomento das redes estabelecidas entre transmigrantes e quais as consequências a nível identitário para estes “nómadas tecnológicos”. O objetivo principal desta investigação consiste em encontrar respostas para uma questão-chave: que papel desempenham os media digitais nos processos de identidade, pertenças transnacionais e integração de imigrantes brasileiros instalados no concelho de Grândola? Para o efeito, e através de um estudo de caso de natureza qualitativa, foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas a dez pessoas pertencentes à comunidade brasileira, testemunhas de diferentes vagas e modos de incorporação na economia e na sociedade portuguesa e grandolense. Os resultados mostram que os media digitais, em especial a Internet, permitem aos imigrantes encontrar e reinventar o seu país de origem e criar laços na sociedade de acolhimento, oferecem oportunidades de interação com os seus pares e com as comunidades locais, e consolidam esferas públicas transnacionais, enquanto redes de excelência de/ para ligação e contacto entre indivíduos migrantes entre si, sociedades de origem e sociedades de acolhimento. Desta forma, será da maior importância continuar a estudar as verdadeiras implicações que as novas tecnologias têm na vida das comunidades imigrantes.
