Um caso de património local: a tomada de Lisboa pelos ascensores

Abstract

O presente trabalho, realizado no âmbito do Mestrado em Estudos do Património, da Universidade Aberta, incide sobre os ascensores históricos de Lisboa. Tendo como preocupação dominante a valorização, pelo conhecimento, daquele património recentemente classificado, e partindo da constatação que a informação disponível sobre os ascensores lisboetas é insatisfatória, muitas vezes lacunar e por vezes incorrecta, procura-se interpretá-los através da tecnologia utilizada, desde o assentamento até à electrificação. Nesse sentido, interrogando sempre que possível as fontes primárias e analisando-se complementarmente as linhas desaparecidas bem como as apenas idealizadas, de caminho procura-se também avaliar se o papel do Engº Raul Mesnier de Ponsard, cujo nome está indelevelmente associado aos ascensores, corresponde ao que é espelhado pela unanimidade da bibliografia dedicada àqueles equipamentos. Adicionalmente, interroga-se a memória colectiva recorrendo às publicações periódicas, especialmente nos momentos mais significativos, assim como se analisa o processo formal de Classificação dos ascensores sobreviventes como Monumentos Nacionais

The present work, developed during the Masters Degree in “Estudos do Património” at the "Universidade Aberta" is based on the historical “ascensores” —funiculars and cable tramways— in the city of Lisbon. Having as main concern the valorisation through knowledge of that recently listed Heritage, and assuming that the information usually available on those equipments is unsatisfactory, often incomplete and sometimes incorrect, one seeks its interpretation through the used technology, from its construction until its electrification. For that purpose, one always questions whenever possible the primary sources and complementarily analyzes the dismantled tramlines as well as those merely idealized, along this path also seeking to verify if the role of Eng. Raul Mesnier de Ponsard, whose name is unquestionably connected to the Lisbon “ascensores”, corresponds to what is accepted by the unanimity of the bibliography dedicated to those equipments. Additionally the Social Memory is questioned by running through the periodic news publications, specially in the most significant moments, as is analysed the formal process of listing the surviving “ascensores” as National Monuments
