O hibridismo textual em como agua para chocolate (1989), de Laura Esquivel: folhetim, almanaque, caderno de receitas e diário íntimo

Abstract

Este artigo pretende discutir como se articulam, na estrutura híbrida do romance Como agua para chocolate, alguns gêneros textuais discursivos comumente dedicados à leitura de mulheres – folhetim, almanaque, caderno de receitas e diário íntimo –, cuja presença fica sugerida desde o subtítulo “novela de entregas mensuales, con recetas, amores y remedios caseros”. Esses gêneros se misturam na construção da narrativa, possibilitando, no âmbito da pós-modernidade, uma leitura crítica do papel da mulher na sociedade patriarcal da primeira metade do século XX.

The article proposes to discuss the articulation of some discursive textual genres within the hybrid structure of the novel, Like Water for Chocolate. These genres were traditionally seen as women’s reading material, such as the feuilleton, almanacs, notebooks of recipes and a personal diary, and their presence is suggested from the subtitle “a novel in monthly installments with recipes, romances, and home remedies”. Embedded within the construction of the narrative, these texts make a critical reading possible, in the ambit of post-modernity, of the woman’s role in the patriarchal society of the first half of the 20th century.
