  • This video shows an H4 cell (human neuroglioma) transiently expressing GFP-Rab5a. In eukaryotic cells components from the extracellular medium are internalized via endocytosis entering into a set of organelles known as the endosomal membrane system. Endocytosed molecules like receptor-ligand complexes are transported first to early endosomes. The small GTPase Rab5 is associated to early endosomes and is required for the delivery of endocytosed molecules from the plasma membrane to early endosomes and for homotypic endosome fusion. By means of high-speed live-cell imaging the video shows the highly dynamic behavior of GFP-Rab5a-containing vesicles and endosomes
