A dor e o sofrimento em Hegel: os não-verbetes da Enciclopédia

Abstract

This paper searches to present Hegel’s understanding of pain and suffering. It was taken as source of investigation Hegel’s Encyclopedia of Philosophical Sciences in which pain and suffering are also considered. The fi rst step was to identify the references of pain and suffering in the original text, i.e., in German and then compared with the Portuguese translation here used. The analysis followed the sequence of Hegel’s text as it mentioned the terms pain and suffering. It can be said that for Hegel pain and suffering are posed by the rational man according to the historical determinations and the relations that are established. So, there is no meaning in pain and suffering themselves but only through the relations that they create and create them as well. Neither the empirical manifestation nor the interpretation can resume the all meaning that pain and suffering may have. The totality of empirical and interpretative approaches reveals the full signifi cance of pain and suffering that can be seen in the human.

O presente artigo procura apresentar a compreensão da dor e do sofrimento segundo a perspectiva fi losófi ca de G.W.F. Hegel. Para tanto foram tomados os volumes correspondentes ao seu texto ‘Enciclopédia das Ciências Filosóficas’ nos quais o autor em questão também traça considerações a respeito da dor e do sofrimento. Foram identificadas as referências de Hegel no texto original em alemão às quais correspondem as indicações no texto utilizado da tradução portuguesa. A análise apresentada seguiu a ordem dos parágrafos conforme a menção feita a um e outro termo. Evidencia-se em Hegel que a dor e o sofrimento têm seu signifi cado na determinação historicamente posta pelo homem racional na medida em que este, pela sua racionalidade, constrói-se pelas relações estabelecidas. Dor e sofrimento não têm sentido em si mesmos, mas somente através das relações que eles criam e que também os cria. Desse modo, nem a dor nem o sofrimento possuem todo o significado possível na manifestação empírica nem na interpretação teórica. É na totalidade da racionalidade que reúne tanto a empiria quanto a teoria que o sentido de vida na dor e no sofrimento podem ser contemplados no humano.
