Cidadania e práticas escolares: as representações de um grupo de alunos do ensino médio de uma escola pública paulista

Abstract

O presente estudo buscou verificar quais as representações sociais dos alunos sobre as práticas escolares que favorecem ou desfavorecem a formação cidadã. Nosso estudo de campo foi desenvolvido em uma escola do Ensino Médio paulista, na cidade de Ribeirão Preto. Utilizamos como referencial teórico as representações sociais de Serge Moscovici. Inicialmente, desenvolvemos um estudo acerca do conceito de cidadania, sua historicidade e possível transvaloração. Em seguida, refletimos sobre a relação autonomia e escola, compreendida desde o âmbito social até os limites de sua formação individual. Posteriormente, problematizamos a categoria juventude, a partir da diversidade de situações e significações possíveis. Os estudos da teoria das representações sociais foram primordiais para dar sustentação teórica às análises e, assim, operar como expressão dos sentidos que os jovens atribuem ao mundo social. A técnica utilizada para a nossa investigação foi a do grupo focal na intenção de obter conceitos, valores e experiências, por meio das trocas vivenciadas pelos alunos. Os encontros do grupo focal tiveram de 10 a 15 participantes. A partir das discussões, dividimos os dados em três categorias de análise: direitos e deveres; práticas escolares e ações sociais; e cidadania tutelada. Nesse sentido, pudemos perceber que o conceito de cidadania ainda é abstrato para esses alunos e são poucos os espaços em que eles podem experimentar a prática de uma formação cidadã

The present study sought to verify the social impression of the students regarding of which school’s activities encourge or deprive the development of a sense of citizenship. Our field study was developed in a high school in the city of Ribeirão Preto, state of São Paulo. We use as theoretical framework the social representations of Serge Moscovici. Initially, we researched about the concept of citizenship, its historicity and possible transvaluation. Afterward we contemplated the relation between autonomy and school, with an understanding of school in its social and individual aspects. Subsequently, we questioned the concept of youth, considering the diversity of situations and its possible meanings. The studies of the theory of social representations were paramount to give theoretical support to our analyses and thus helped understand the meanings the youth attach to the social world. We used focal groups as our investigative technique in order to obtain concepts and values through the students’ experiences. The focal group gatherings had between 10 and 15 participants. We divided the data gathered during the discussions into three categories of analysis: rights and duties, school practices and social actions, and the sense of entitlement connected to the sense of citizenship. Everything considered, we realized that the concept of citizenship is still abstract for these students and there are few spaces in which they can experience the sense of citizenship
