Leitura de jornais em famílias de estudantes de escola pública de ensino fundamental

Abstract

O presente trabalho envolveu a leitura do jornal por alunos e suas famílias. Para tanto, foram selecionados quatro alunos matriculados na 8ª série do Ensino Fundamental de uma escola estadual, localizada em um bairro periférico de Assis- SP. Duas famílias receberam o jornal Folha de S. Paulo e outras duas, o Jornal de Assis, entre os anos de 2005 e 2006, num período de seis meses. Esta investigação científica desenvolveu-se com instrumentos de estudo de caso: entrevistas, observação participante e documentos pessoais. A partir disso, buscou-se compreender como ocorre a interação entre aluno, família e jornal; a relação aluno e jornal; como eles utilizam e se apropriam do suporte como material de leitura; e a interferência dessa situação no desempenho da leitura dos alunos envolvidos. Ao final da pesquisa foi possível verificar que os alunos envolvidos modificaram seu comportamento em relação à leitura do jornal. Neste processo, a família desempenhou um papel importante, auxiliando seus filhos a interagir com o jornal. O conhecimento sobre as maneiras de como usar o jornal, favoreceu-lhes adentrarem no suporte rompendo com o conceito preestabelecido que tinham, desenvolvendo estratégias em suas leituras e interagindo com assuntos de seus interesses. Com o recebimento diário do jornal, alunos e suas famílias, juntos, compreenderam seu uso, sua função e passaram a interagir com informações presentes em seu contexto social.

This work involved the guided reading of newspapers by pupils and their families. Four pupils were selected from the 8th grade of a secondary public school, located in an outlying area of Assis-SP. Two families received the newspaper Folha de S. Paulo and the other two, the Jornal de Assis, during six months between 2005 and 2006. This scientific inquiry was developed with tools of the case study: interviews, participant observation and personal documents. It tried to understand how the interaction between pupil, family and newspapers occurs; the relationship studentnewspaper; how they use it and if they gained possession of the support as a reading material; and the interference of this situation in the reading performance of the students involved. At the end of the research, it was possible to verify that the pupils had modified their behavior regarding the reading of the newspaper. In this process, the families played an important role, assisting and helping their children to interact with the newspaper. The knowledge of how to use the newspaper has helped them to start using it as a support breaking the previous concept that they used to have, developing strategies on their reading and interacting with subjects of their interest. With the daily receiving of newspapers, students and their families, together, understood its use and started to interact with the informations on their social context.
