Milagre econômico, agricultura e meio ambiente: uma história ambiental da microrregião de Assis (1968-1974)

Abstract

O presente texto é um trabalho de História Ambiental sobre a localidade que compreende a microrregião de Assis. Procurou analisar as relações entre as pessoas e o meio ambiente por meio da investigação em fontes como jornais, Censos Agropecuários e depoimentos de moradores da região. Buscou entender os problemas ambientais ocorridos atualmente, fazendo uma análise do passado. Para entender a dinâmica história, foram estudadas informações referentes à ocupação iniciada ainda no século XIX; o potencial agrícola e a substituição da mata nativa por agricultura – primeiramente pelo café e posteriormente pela soja e pelo trigo – e a influência das ações governamentais federais, entre os anos de 1968 e 1974, sobre as maneiras da sociedade se relacionar com seu ambiente. Portanto, este é um trabalho de História que procura entender a relação entre sociedade e meio ambiente de uma microrregião do estado de São Paulo, analisando seu passado em três dimensões: local, nacional e global

The present text is a work of Environmental History about the locality that comprises the micro-region of Assis. It has tried to analyze the relations between people and the environment through the investigations in sources as newspapers, Agropecuary Censuses and region dwellers’ declarations. It has aimed to understand the environmental problems occurred nowadays, making an analysis of the past. To comprehend the dynamic history, it was necessary to study the information referent to the occupation began still in XIX century, the agricultural potential and the substitution of the native forest for agriculture – firstly for coffee and then for soya and the wheat – and the influence of federal governmental actions, between 1968 and 1974, about the manners of the society behave towards the environment. Therefore, this is a work of History that aims to understand the relation between society and environment of a micro-region of São Paulo state, analyzing its past in three dimensions: local, national and global
