Abstract

O presente trabalho busca apresentar uma leitura da obra O ano da morte de Ricardo Reis, de José Saramago, pela luz de suas relações com a história portuguesa, principalmente durante o período de cristalização do regime salazarista. O romance, com sua linguagem plurissignificativa, é um verdadeiro estudo sobre a sociedade portuguesa da década de 1930 visto por alguém que não só viveu nessa época como também escreveu após a sua queda, sendo assim capaz de oferecer insights para a compreensão tanto da ascenção da ditadura portuguesa quanto de sua atual democracia, sempre sob a ótica da literatura, que ao imitar o mundo, o recria com novo sentido

This study has as its main purpose to present a analysis of the novel O ano da morte de Ricardo Reis, by José Saramago, in its relations with Portuguese History, specially during the period of sedimentation of the salazarist regime. This novel, with its intricate language, is an essay on the portuguese society of the decade of 1930 by someone who not only lived in this particular time but also wrote after its decline, being thus able to offer insights into the comprehension of both the rise and fall of the portuguese dictatorship under the lens of Literature, which, by imitating the world, rewrites and gives a whole new meaning to it
