Neste trabalho faremos uma exposição, muitas vezes intuitiva, da teoria de nós, baseada no livro de Derek Hacon (Introdução á Teoria dos Nós em R3) com o objetivo de apresentar os invariantes de isotopia: o determinante e o polinômio de Alexander de um nó. O grupo fundamental do complementar de um nó é um invariante de isotopia de nós mais poderoso do que os dois acima mencionados, porém muito difícil de ser calculado. In this work we present an intuitive approach of the Knot Theory, based on the book Introdução á Teoria dos Nós em R3, of Derek Hacon. The main purpose of this work is to present two invariants of isotopy of knots: the determinant and the Alexander’s polynomial of a knot. The fundamental group of the complement of a knot in R3 is an isotopy invariant stronger than the two above mentioned invariants, but hard to calculate. We will present some basics features of that group
