Promoção da leitura recreativa : um projecto da biblioteca escolar em articulação com língua portuguesa

Abstract

Quinze anos depois do arranque da Rede de Bibliotecas Escolares, as conceções em torno da leitura e do papel da Biblioteca Escolar vão-se transformando, levando à necessidade de aprofundar conhecimentos sobre o papel da Biblioteca na promoção da leitura junto dos alunos. A missão da Biblioteca Escolar, enquanto serviço técnico-pedagógico fundamental na vida das escolas, passa pelo empenhamento no desenvolvimento de políticas efetivas de motivação para a leitura e de formação de leitores, visto ser a competência leitora dos nossos alunos condição essencial para o sucesso educativo. Sabendo nós que os hábitos de leitura em Portugal estão ainda por consolidar e que a leitura é um veículo fulcral de conhecimento, as Bibliotecas Escolares devem contribuir decisivamente para alterar este fenómeno, articulando o seu plano de ação pedagógica com diferentes áreas curriculares e instituindo-se como serviços por excelência para o desenvolvimento de hábitos de leitura. Neste sentido, no nosso trabalho percorremos, numa primeira parte, dimensões conceptuais relacionadas com a aprendizagem e o desenvolvimento da leitura, refletindo igualmente sobre o papel da biblioteca no contexto da promoção da leitura. O estudo empírico realizado incidiu no desenvolvimento de um conjunto de atividades, numa turma de 7º ano de escolaridade, e pretendeu-se equacionar o contributo das práticas pedagógicas da Biblioteca Escolar, em articulação com a área curricular de Português, para a promoção da leitura recreativa e a sua correlação com o sucesso educativo.

Fifteen years after the start of the School Libraries Network, the conceptions around reading and the role of the School Library have been changing, leading to the necessity of achieving a further knowledge on the role of the Library in promoting reading among students. The mission of the School Library, as an essential technical- educational service in the school life, implies a commitment in the development of effective policies of motivation for reading and the education of readers, since the reading ability of our students is a very important key for educational success. It is known that the reading habits in Portugal haven’t been consolidated yet and that reading is a fundamental vehicle of knowledge. Therefore, School Libraries should definitely contribute to modify this phenomenon, linking their plan of pedagogical action with different curriculum areas and establishing themselves as services par excellence for the development of reading habits. Thus, at first, in our work we have gone through conceptual dimensions related to learning and the development of reading. The empirical study conducted focused on developing a set of activities, in a class in year 7, and was intended to consider the contribution of educational practices of the School Library, in cooperation with the curriculum area of Portuguese, to the promotion of recreational reading and their strong link with educational success.
