Conceções sobre o impacto da biblioteca escolar na comunidade educativa senense

Abstract

Com este estudo pretendemos analisar o grau de satisfação da comunidade educativa senense quanto às atividades e recursos disponibilizados pela Biblioteca Escolar, e verificar até que ponto esta promove os objetivos educativos delineados de acordo com as finalidades da escola. Assim, as nossas questões de investigação são: (i) Quais os contributos da Biblioteca Escolar para a satisfação da comunidade educativa? (ii) Que conceções possuem os elementos da comunidade educativa relativamente à Biblioteca Escolar? (iii) De que forma contribui a Biblioteca Escolar para a promoção e dinamização cultural da comunidade educativa? (iv) Como são perspetivados os benefícios resultantes da existência da Biblioteca Escolar? O enquadramento teórico deste estudo está organizado em três partes: a primeira apresenta algumas das conceções sobre a biblioteca escolar; a segunda aborda a importância da biblioteca escolar para a satisfação da comunidade educativa; e, a terceira diz respeito à gestão e dinamização da biblioteca escolar, referindo o papel desempenhado quer pelo professor bibliotecário, quer pela direção da escola. Para esta investigação, adotámos uma abordagem mista, com um carácter maioritariamente quantitativo, por se recorrer a inquéritos por questionário aos alunos, aos professores, aos assistentes operacionais e técnicos e aos encarregados de educação, mas também, com um cariz qualitativo, uma vez que recorremos, ao inquérito por entrevista à professora bibliotecária e à diretora do Agrupamento de Escolas. Os resultados deste estudo revelam que quase toda a comunidade escolar reconhece a importância da existência da biblioteca escolar, mas que existem pequenos aspetos que terão que ser corrigidos para que, desse modo, tenha um papel e uma preponderância mais eficaz. Verificamos que há plena consciência dos órgãos responsáveis pela sua gestão e organização, que ainda há muito a fazer para a concretização de todos os objetivos que conduzam à plena satisfação e tenham impacto efetivo na melhoria da qualidade dos serviços prestados, nomeadamente e de forma significativa, na aprendizagem dos alunos, que consiste no objetivo primeiro de todo o trabalho educativo.

The current study intends to analyse the degree of satisfaction among the school community of Seia regarding the activities and resources provided by the School Library, as well as to verify to what extent it promotes the educational aims outlined according to the school purposes. Thus, one research questions are: (i) Which benefits does the School Library bring to the school community? (ii) Which perceptions do the school community members have towards the School Library? (iii) In which way does the School Library contribute to the cultural promotion and dynamics of the school community? (iv) How are the School Library benefits perceived? The theoretical framework of the current study is organized in three parts: the first one focus the School Library in general; the second approaches the importance of the School Library to meet the satisfaction of the school community; and the third refers to the management and dynamics of the School Library, namely the role played both by the librarian teacher and the school management. A mixed methodological approach was adopted for this investigation prevailing a quantitative character, using surveys to teachers, operational and technical assistants, students and parents, but resorting as well to a qualitative procedure, by using interviews to the librarian teacher and the school director. The results of the present study show that almost the entire school community recognizes the importance of the School Library, in spite of some details that have to be improved so that it can gain a more effective role and preponderance. We realize that the responsible bodies for its management and organization are fully aware that there is still a lot to be done in order to achieve all the aims leading to satisfaction and effective impact on improving the quality of one services provided, namely and meaningfully on students’ learning, which is the first aim of all educational work.
