Mulheres imigrantes cabo-verdianas nas prisões portuguesas (des) integração, reclusão e projectos de vida

Abstract

O presente estudo baseia-se em mulheres imigrantes cabo-verdianas nas prisões portuguesas. A informação foi recolhida no Estabelecimento Prisional de Tires e assentou em mulheres condenadas que cumprem pena efetiva de prisão. Quisemos perceber quais os motivos que levaram estas mulheres imigrantes a abandonarem o seu país de origem, se tiveram dificuldades de integração no país que as acolheu e se em resultado desse acolhimento caíram nas malhas da justiça. Pretendíamos também saber se o espaço que se vêm obrigadas a abraçar, resultado do contacto com a justiça, servia para reflexão das suas vidas pregressas e se daí resultavam mais valias para a concretização dos seus projetos de vida. Imaginar o ambiente prisional não é certamente o mesmo que ter contacto com a instituição. A ideia de prisão não passa apenas pelo espaço fechado, mas também pelo local frio, receoso, degradante, onde se aperfeiçoa o crime e onde existe um código de ética por parte de reclusos/as. As prisões são muitas vezes apelidadas de “escolas de crime”. Importa por isso fazer uma abordagem à evolução do sistema prisional português, compreender a sua evolução, as limitações, o avanço feito ao nível da abertura ao exterior e sobretudo a evolução ao nível da humanização. Aquele espaço fechado e altruísta teve o seu fim, e em boa hora o possamos dizer. Fez-se uma abordagem à integração social, aos fatores que intervêm no processo e uma breve sinopse caraterizando a comunidade Cabo-verdiana. Pela metodologia utilizada, concluiu-se que as dificuldades de integração não parecem estar diretamente relacionadas com a prática do crime. As razões económicas e as influências externas foram os dois fatores mais vincados, retirados da análise dos dados. Importa aqui salientar que quadros sociais e económicos fragilizados poderão ser fomentadores de atividades ilícitas.

The present study is based on cabo-verdian immigrant women in portuguese prisons. The withdrawn information was picked up from the Prison of Tires and is based on sentenced women who accomplish their sentences there. We wanted to understand what motivated those immigrant women to abandon their own country, if they had some difficulties to integrate the country which gave them heed and if those were the causes that led them to imprisonment. We also wanted to know if the place they are confined to, result of contacting with justice, could help them to reflect and think about their former lives, resulting in values for the achievement of their life projects. Imagining the environment of a prison is not the same as having direct contact whit it. The idea of a prison is not only of a closed and restricted room but also one of a cold place, fearful, degraded, where crime skills are improved and where there is an ethic’s code for prisoners. Most of the time prisons are called “crime schools”. In consequence it is important to do an approach to the evolution of Portuguese prison’s system, to understand its course, its boundaries, the advance made to the humanitarian level. Finally we can say that closed righteous environment has it end. We made an approach to the social integration, the factors involved in the process and a brief synopsis featuring the cabo-verdian community. By the used methodology it is concluded that the difficulties of integration do not seem to be directly related to committing a crime. Economic reasons and external influences were the two most stressed factors, taken from data analysis.
