A toponímia da vila de Gavião e da aldeia de Castelo Cernado : história e memória

Abstract

A toponímia da vila do Gavião e da aldeia de Castelo Cernado constituem o objeto de estudo desta dissertação. O estudo insere-se no âmbito da história do património cultural português, com destaque para as temáticas, história local e memória pública. Procurou-se estudar a evolução da toponímia da vila do Gavião e da aldeia de Castelo Cernado, partindo do levantamento dos topónimos existentes no início do século XX, através da atas das sessões de Câmara Municipal, identificámos as nomeações e renomeações dos diversos arruamentos e avaliou-se a utilização da toponímia enquanto elemento da construção da memória coletiva ao serviço das elites locais. Pretendeu-se analisar as mudanças e as continuidades na toponímia aquando das mudanças de regime político e ainda a preservação da memória coletiva através das placas de toponímia e de outros ritos de comemoração.

This dissertation aims at studying the toponymy of the small town of Gavião and the village of Castelo Cernado. The present study is carried out within the ambit of the History of the Portuguese Cultural Patrimony, standing out and focusing on the themes of Local History and Public Memory. We’ve tried to approach the evolution of the toponymy of the small town of Gavião and the village of Castelo Cernado based on and taking into account the already existing toponyms in the early twentieth century, so that, through the minutes of the Town- Council meetings, it could be possible to identify the naming and renaming of the various streets and also evaluate to what extent is Toponymy an element of collective memory at the service of the local leading circles. We have intended to analyse the interruptions and continuations as far as Toponymy is concerned at the time of the changing of the political regime and also the preservation or not of the collective memory through both toponymy plaques and other commemoration rites.
