Abstract

Do Sentimento em Florbela Espanca tem como principal objecto de estudo os sentimentos patenteados em Livro de Mágoas, Livro de Soror Saudade e Charneca em Flor; alicerçando-se em quatro eixos: Florbela, a mulher; Enquadramento sócio-cultural; Sentimentos; o Cânone e os Manuais Escolares. Assim, temos Florbela enquanto mulher comum, o seu nascimento obscuro, o percurso pessoal e académico. Contextualizando, foi feita uma breve abordagem ao Ultimato inglês, o qual se repercutiu na sociedade e na literatura portuguesas. Simultaneamente, percepciona-se um Portugal mergulhado na ignorância, devido a um deficitário sistema de ensino, onde o analfabetismo grassava, sobretudo no feminino. Florbela emerge nesse contexto, tornando-se incómoda para alguns críticos e para a sociedade patriarcal, pela ousadia da palavra e pela força dos sentimentos, dos quais é feito um estudo diacrónico, enquanto temática estruturadora de sentido, o que permite apreender a sua evolução enquanto poetisa. A sua poesia institui uma ruptura com os dogmas sociais. Despojada de preconceitos, abre-se aos outros e à natureza, embora a mágoa surja, por vezes, inculcando o desalento, numa pluralidade de sentimentos que fazem dela uma poetisa ímpar, de difícil catalogação. Florbela inovou o soneto pela temática, pelo ritmo, pela plasticidade e musicalidade da palavra, em sugestivas metáforas, em sonoras aliterações, pela força do vocábulo e da exclamação, pela despersonalização, através de inúmeras imagens do “Eu” poético, as suas máscaras, que, paradoxalmente, conduziram à personalização, ao “Eu” procurado, que a catapultou para o século XX e para o cânone literário português, como atestam, entre outros, os Manuais Escolares

The thesis Do Sentimento em Florbela Espanca presents as its main object of study the feelings and emotions displayed in the works of Florbela Espanca, Livro de Mágoas, Livro de Soror Saudade and Charneca em Flor. This theme is then consolidated in four subthemes, which are – Florbela, the Woman, Social and Cultural Framings, the Canon-Law and the Course Books. Thus, we have Florbela Espanca portrayed as an ordinary woman, with her obscure birth, her personal and academic progress. In order to contextualise this study, a brief approach to the English Ultimatum was accomplished by showing the way it deflected in the Portuguese society and literature. Simultaneously we can perceive a country deepened in ignorance due to a deficient learning system, which caused illiteracy to spread, especially amongst women. Florbela then emerges from that context, becoming a nuisance to some critics and to the patriarchal society. This situation occurs not only by the boldness of her word, but also by the strength of her emotions. Accordingly, a diachronic study of those feelings and emotions is carried out as a theme which structures the meaning that allows us to apprehend her evolution as a poet. Florbela’s poetry creates a breaking point with the social dogmas. Without prejudice she opens up to others and to nature, although sorrow sometimes arises by instilling discouragement in a plurality of feelings which make her a unique poet, one who is almost impossible to catalogue. Florbela has brought innovations to the sonnet, not only by the theme she explored, by the rhythm, the plasticity and musicality of her word in suggestive metaphors and resonant alliterations, but also by the strength of the word and the exclamation, by the loss of personality through several images of the poetic self - her masks - which, paradoxically led to that loss of personality and to the searched self. All these characteristics of her poetry have elevated Florbela Espanca to the twentieth century and to the Portuguese literary canon-law, as it is certified, amongst others in the course books
