Atitudes dos alunos brancos em relação a alunos negros

Abstract

Resumo - O objectivo central da dissertação é de analisar as atitudes que uma amostra de adolescentes brancos, de uma escola do Porto, evidenciam em relação aos seus colegas negros (portugueses ou não). Partindo deste e de outros objectivos, bem como de um conjunto de hipóteses de trabalho, explanamos e reflectimos sobre a situação nacional no que concerne às migrações e à educação intercultural. Seguidamente, principiamos uma reflexão teórica enquadrada no campo de acção da Psicologia Social, a qual inclui os seguintes pontos: • Uma exposição das abordagens teóricas e metodológicas que têm vindo a ser conduzidas sobre as atitudes. • Uma breve abordagem do preconceito como atitude; • Uma sucinta revisão de literatura sobre dois dos tipos de abordagens cognitivas da origem do preconceito: categorização social e estereótipos (de particular relevância para este estudo). • Uma resumida explanação sobre - satisfação com a vida, distância social e religião - variáveis sócio-psicológicas que achamos poder, de algum modo, interferir nas atitudes dos alunos brancos perante os alunos negros. Após o enquadramento teórico e com base no mesmo, é planeado um estudo empírico baseado na construção de um questionário a aplicar numa amostra de 221 alunos brancos. As hipóteses, inicialmente, formuladas são confrontadas com os resultados encontrados, sendo retiradas as respectivas e possíveis conclusões. The aim of the dissertation is to analyse the attitudes which a sample of white adolescents from a school in Oporto show related to their black classmates (Portuguese or not). Starting from this and other aims, as well as from a number of hypotheses of work, we explain and think over the national situation in what migrations and intercultural education are concerned. Afterwards, we begin a theoretical reflection within the Social Psychology, which includes the following points: • A presentation of the theoretical and methodological approaches that have been followed about the attitudes. • A brief approach to the prejudice as an attitude; • A short literature revision on two of the types of cognitive approaches on the origin of the prejudice: social levels and stereotypes (these being particularly relevant to this study). • A summarized explanation about – being satisfied with life, social distance and religion – those being socio-psychological varieties which we think can, in a certain way, interfere with the attitudes of the white students towards the black ones. After the theoretical approach and inspired on it, it is planned an empirical study based on the construction of a questionnaire done on a sample of white students. The hypotheses, initially formulated are confronted with the results achieved, and the possible conclusions are taken.
