Universidade sustentável (SGA): benefícios e oportunidades

Abstract

The implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS) enables the organization to achieve the level of environmental performance determined by it and promote continuous improvement over time. This system consists of a schedule of activities, so as to eliminate or minimize impacts to the environment, through preventive actions. It also provides a structured way to set and achieve goals and targets approach, and to establish procedures, work instructions and control, ensuring that the implementation of the policy can become reality. The objective of this work consists in planning a system using environmental management based on the ISO 14001 - standard internationally more widespread and accepted in the requirements for establishing and operating an EMS in the Library of the units of UNESP, to stimulate the search for continuous improvement and sustainability in the educational institution. The results show that the benefits that the organization will in turn involve reducing expenses and cost of energy and water, and improve the organization's reputation before the whole university and other educational institutions, reaching about three thousand people on campus university.

A implantação de um Sistema de Gestão Ambiental (SGA) permite que a organização atinja o nível de desempenho ambiental por ela determinado e promova sua melhoria contínua ao longo do tempo. Esse sistema consiste em um planejamento de atividades, visando à eliminação ou minimização dos impactos ao meio ambiente, por meio de ações preventivas. Também possibilita uma abordagem estruturada para estabelecer e atingir objetivos e metas, além de estabelecer procedimentos, instruções de trabalho e controle, assegurando que a execução da política possa se transformar em realidade. O objetivo deste trabalho consiste no planejamento de um sistema de gestão ambiental utilizando como base a ISO 14001 - norma internacionalmente mais difundida e aceita na definição dos requisitos para estabelecer e operar um SGA na Biblioteca de uma das unidades da UNESP, visando estimular a busca pela melhoria contínua e a sustentabilidade na instituição de ensino. Os resultados mostram que os benefícios que a organização terá em troca envolverão redução dos gastos e custo com energia e água, além de melhorar a reputação da organização perante toda a universidade e outras instituições de ensino, chegando a atingir cerca de três mil pessoas no campus da universidade.
