dc.description.abstractThe species of Sesbania Scopoli (Leguminosae) occurring in Brazil are presented with keys for their identification, synonyms, descriptions and distribution. The study, based on herbarium specimens of national and foreign institutions, comes from a taxonomic revision of the genus for the New World. The species are S. sesban (L.) Merrill, S. emerus (Aubl.) Urban, S. exasperata H.B.K., S. oligosperma Taub., S. bispinosa (Jacq.) W.F. Wight, S. punicea (Cav.) Bentham, S. virgata (Cav.) and S. grandiflora (L.) Pers.en
