A educação ambiental em escolas de ensino fundamental e médio do município de São Carlos - SP

Abstract

O objetivo deste trabalho foi descrever alguns aspectos relevantes do que se realiza como sendo Educação Ambiental (EA) nas escolas de Ensino Fundamental e Médio do Município de São Carlos-SP, na óptica dos responsáveis pela EA nessas instituições. Para isso, desenvolvemos a pesquisa em uma abordagem quanti-qualitativa, que nos permitiu constatar que a Educação Ambiental que se faz presente nas escolas sancarlenses insere-se em uma perspectiva simplista, do tipo preservacionista, associada ao ensino tradicional, com práticas estereotipadas e desprovidas de fundamentação didática, centrada na responsabilidade individual e incapaz de provocar nos educandos questionamentos mais profundos sobre o sistema e as ideologias que o regem, em detrimento de sua potencialidade educacional transformadora. A pesquisa também indica um ganho quantitativo no que tange à inserção de temáticas ambientais nas escolas de Ensino Fundamental e Médio do Município de São Carlos-SP, o que vai de encontro a uma aparente estagnação da evolução qualitativa da Educação Ambiental nessas escolas.

The objective of the present work was to report some relevant aspects about what has been taught as environmental education (EE) at elementary and high schools in the city of São Carlos-SP under the focus of those responsible for EE in these institutions. Therefore, the research was done through a quanti-qualitative approach allowing us to verify that the environmental education taught at São Carlos schools comprise a simplistic view, mainly related to preservation and associated to traditional teaching, including stereotyped practices which lack fundamental didactic basis and concern to individual responsibility, thus being unable to bring out from the students deeper questions about the system and ideas that direct it, hindering its educational changing potential. The research also indicated a quantitative gain regarding the insertion of environmental topics in elementary and high schools in the city of São Carlos-SP, what contrasts with the apparent stagnation of environmental education at these schools.
