- A parte da igreja pode ser admirada desde os braços do rio que a circunda estando posicionada ao lado do antigo prédio da alfândega. A fachada volta-se para uma rua estreita sendo as duas torres e o corpo central em pedra - o que lhe dá um aspecto pesado com vergas e cornijas entablamentos retos. As vergas das quatro portas são animadas com leves volutas por vezes interrompidas e acima o triângulo frontão sobre o entablamento reto possui duas volutas circundando o nicho central. Coruchéus ampliam as colunas das laterais das torres que são coroadas com cúpulas e arestas, bulbos e pináculos. O interior da nave é um amplo salão com capelas laterais e um majestoso arco triunfal de severa cantaria com dois altares no arco cruzeiro. O altar mor é de talha dourada com nichos sacrários e trono em estilo rococó. O forro entalhado da capela mor é dos mais surpreendentes do Recife, acompanhando aqueles das capelas mores de Nossa Senhora do Carmo e São Pedro dos Clérigos. - Pertenceu a extinta congregação de São Filipe Neri e foi autorizada a ser construída a partir de 1680. O construtor e doador do terreno foi Antônio Fernandes de Matos.

- On the façade of The Jesuit seminary of Vigia there are the three, well-defined parts, our attention is called to the central part of the nave body, with three stone doors and the choir’s symmetrical windows above. The recessed towers and double columns, which support the entablature, highlight the pediment in smaller convex rhythmus, while bigger volutes wind up the columns, softening the sturdy façade’s general appearance. The spires on the walls frame the oculus, and beneath them, vases with flowers interrupt the symmetry of the friezes that circle the small relief with the Virgin and the Child. The sacristy, however, is most surprising for its practically complete pictorial layout in the manner of the new Cathedral in Coimbra, and even similar to the Church of São Roque in Lisbon, with scenes from the life of the first Jesuit saints. On the wall where the great chest is placed there are richly framed oil paintings unrolling scenes from the life of Mother of God, from the vision of the Immaculate Conception up the ascension to heaven, and grotesque paintings on the ceiling. Floral paintings of stirring enchantment frame the partitions on the level ceiling.
