dc.description.abstract2Granite monument measuring 5,15m X 8,30m X 39,31 m. The granite base measures 2,35m X 5,81m X 43,76m. Located on Praça Armando Salles Oliveira. (1921/1953) The Monument to the Bandeiras paying homage to the bandeirantes, by Victor Brecheret, was placed in the Ibirapuera Park, facing towards the Tietê River, from where the entradas and bandeiras left to go into the wilderness, leaving in canoes from Porto Feliz. Everyone is familiar with Brecheret’s creation: it depicts a burst of Bandeirantes towards the conquering of a Virgin Land. A snapshot of life as a Bandeira, caught in an especially favorable manner. Everything here is strength, movement and action. The men, caught by surprise during an ascent, push upwards: it is Paulista idealism in action. Some men, using one arm to pull the barge, with their other help uphold their companions exhausted by fatigue or fever: its solidarity, indispensable for triumph. Two Bandeirantes, the leaders, go in the front, on horseback: it is the beginning of authority, civilization’s strongest prop, which communism tries to destroy. The figures taper off in one of the most beautiful principles of social organization, as it allows that the one lowest down the line may, on his own, rise to the highest position. (Menotti del Picchia, 1936) Paulistas and Paulistanos have a close relationship with Bandeirante allegory, honored with the names of the State’s main highways, such as the Bandeirantes and Anhangüera, which follow the old roads to the mines in Goiás and Mato Grosso; Raposo Tavares highway, leading to the South; the Fernão Dias, going towards the State of Minas Gerais. Avenues and streets reinforce the honors, with a special highlight to the Bandeirantes Palace, headquarters to the Paulista government.en_US
